National Patriotism Month 2018- August 17th to September 24th
The Ministry of Community Development, Culture and the Arts is pleased to celebrate with the nation “National Patriotism Month.” This year’s commemoration will be held from August 17 to September 24th; a period which captures two of our important national holidays- Independence Day (31st) and Republic Day (24th). During this time of the year there is an increased drive to strengthen that connection with our history; our road to true freedom; and our nation’s core values and achievements.
National Patriotism Month therefore seeks to foster national pride and edification through a series of cultural, educational and environmental activities with the purpose of highlighting our rich heritage whilst providing an enriching experience for communities. The focal point for this year will be youth, social responsibility and volunteerism, and the activities are designed to awaken a renewed sense of service and dedication to our beloved Trinidad and Tobago.
“ColourMeTrinbago” is the tagline chosen for National Patriotism Month, calling on all citizens to incorporate the meaning of our national colours: red (representing the vitality of the land and its people; it is the warmth and energy of the sun, the courage and friendliness of the people), white (representing the sea by which these lands are bound: the cradle of our heritage; the purity of our aspirations and the equality of all men and women under the sun) and black (representing the earth; the dedication of the people joined together by one strong bond. It is the colour of strength, of unity, of purpose and of the wealth of the land), in one’s daily life.
